Details:

Probably had something to do with how it was stored over the last 80 years. With some looking I did find a little rust out in the top of the surrounding piece. It's a little on the ragged side but it's a lot easier to repair bullet holes and cracks than heavy rust out.

It's not over weight but looks to be over size. This is one of those things that would help a body with serious rust out or with no lid at all. Or like the previous owner,was going to put it in the back of a '35 ford flatback that never came with a trunklid and have the only one that does. Where the hinges bolt onto the lid there are some cracks.

But the car sold before it got done. Parts missing include handle and latch and one holdup arm.
